The 5G revolution is really happening as we enter 2020 and despite all the corona virus scare technology keeps moving at its ever-steady pace. Today Oppo announced two innovative 5G flagship smartphones; the Oppo Find X2 and the highly advanced Find X2 Pro. Both smartphones are equipped with a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The stylish Android phones are powered by the most powerful chipset to date – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 combined with the X55 5G modem. Among other interesting specs are the Ultra Vision camera system and the humongous 65W SuperVOOC fast charger.
Everything screams flagship at least on paper, so we’re eager to lay our hands on the actual device and provide you with a full-on Find X2 review as soon as possible.
Oppo Find X2 is the first 5G smartphone in the Netherlands
Oppo is acting with remarkable speed as the new models will be available in the Netherlands starting today! The launch in other European countries will follow in May 2020. T-Mobile Netherlands will offer the devices with a subscription plan and MediaMarkt will sell you just the phone, if you prefer to stay with your current telecom operator. It’s the first time that Oppo decides to launch its smartphone models in Europe, before enterting the home-market in China.
LetsGoDigital has done some research worldwide, we have come to the conclusion that the Netherlands is the very first country where you can buy the Oppo Find X2 and Find X2 Pro. Starting today!
By launching the phone in the Netherlands today, Oppo is also the first smartphone manufacturer to offer a 5G smartphone in this European country. Samsung missed that train by a week, as the Galaxy S20 5G devices will arrive Friday, March 13, despite preorders running at full speed.
It’s all not so surprising as Oppo places a lot of resources into its 5G plan – it was the first manufacturer to launch a 5G smartphone in Europe, the Reno 5G made its debut in Switzerland in April 2019. The Chinese brand also stroke various partnership deals with telecom operators around the world.
What may you expect from the Oppo Find X2 Series?
During the past few months, lots of information about Oppo Find X2 circled the interweb. The new devices will replace the Find X from 2018 and as the latter was a technological masterpiece with its beautifully tapered full-screen display and extendable camera the bar is set high for its successors. With the Find X2 and the Find X2 Pro, Oppo has once again pushed the boundaries in all areas – screen, camera, processor, battery and the fast-charging technology is on the highest possible level.
Let’s start with the display – both smartphones are equipped with a 6.7-inch QHD + AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3168×1440 pixels and 513ppi. Oppo is the first manufacturer to support a 120 Hz refresh rate at this resolution – the Galaxy S20 models sport the same option but only at Full HD. Behind the Ultra Vision moniker stands a 1 billion color display with a screen brightness of 1200 nits and ultra-low screen reflectivity – geared toward the outdoor use under bright sunlight. The screen quality of the Oppo Find X2 series has been tested by the independent testing institute DisplayMate and received an A+ rating.
Nowadays software algorithms play an important role – almost as the hardware itself. Both the Oppo Find X2 and the Find X2 Pro are equipped with an O1 Ultra Vision Engine with a built-in display chip, to improve the image quality. This engine allows goodies like “Motion Clear” and “HDR video enhancement” as well as other eye-candy.
Motion Clear can increase the framerate of online video and sports broadcasts from 30 fps to 60 or even 120 fps. This makes videos look significantly smoother, and motion jitter is minimized as well. The HDR video enhancement can improve the real-time HDR effect of regular video platforms (including YouTube) and improve the image quality through various enhancement algorithms such as tone mapping, bit depth expansion, and color gamut expansion.
The Oppo Find X2 series also supports AI adaptive eye protection system. The color temperature and brightness of the screen are adjusted depending on the ambient color, in order to further enhance the viewing experience. TÜV Rheinland has awarded the Find X2 Series with an “Eye Care Certification” for its outstanding eye protection performance.
Impressive audio technology accompanies the immersive screen – stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos are at your disposal, making listening to music, watching movies and playing games a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Oppo Find X2 Pro with 10x Hybrid Zoom
We’ll have to wait some more for the rumored under-display selfie camera as the Find 2X and X2 Pro sport a punch-hole design for the front snapper. It seems that the technology to put the camera under the display is about a year away – we might see it in the next year awaited Oppo Find X3. Until then we’ll be dealing with a regular 32 megapixel selfie camera, placed in the upper left corner of the screen.
The main camera system is different in the X2 and the Pro – the latter is equipped with the most advanced camera system including a 10x Hybrid Zoom. This feature is not entirely new – a year ago the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom was launched with the same zoom capabilities but in the Oppo Find X2 Pro the camera system has undergone significant upgrades. A 48-megapixel wide-angle lens is built-in, as well as a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. The telephoto lens has a 13-megapixel image sensor.
The wide-angle camera of the Pro model uses a modified sensor from Sony – the IMX689 is the largest sensor of all 48MP mobile camera sensors, making it capable of taking clear pictures in poor light conditions. This camera has a large aperture of f/1.7 and supports dual native OIS technology, which also makes images of moving subjects look sharper.
The Oppo Find X2 Pro is also the first smartphone that supports “All Pixel Omni-directional PDAF”, with the ability to achieve 100% pixel focus and omnidirectional focus. This sounds a bit technical, but it comes down to the fact that this autofocus system should deliver significantly better performance than a Quad Bayer AF – which can be found in other top models.
This is the second generation 10x Hybrid Zoom, with improved colors and white balance. Switching between the three cameras is also a lot easier, and the zooming process goes much smoother. Users can easily switch between the three lenses, depending on the subject, to take a 3 cm macro or use the maximum combined zoom of 60x.
The Ultra Night mode is also accessible for the first time at all focal lengths, so you can even take telephoto night shots – for all the astrophotography enthusiasts out there. There’s no better way to get a good image at that magnification than to use a tripod – long-exposition night shots will be much clearer with the combination of a steady device and OIS.
The Oppo Find X2 has a 5x Hybrid Zoom function, which also uses a 13-megapixel telephoto camera. A 48-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera round-out the system. Video recording is another great feature of the new Oppo smartphones. Ultra Steady Video Pro and Ultra Steady Video mode are available, effectively preventing unwanted camera shake. You can also zoom in up to 30x while recording a video and the two Find X2 devices support 4K videos at 60fps.
Live HDR video recording is another jaw-dropping feature. By integrating 10-bit video recording, real-time grader exposure at pixel level and video color calibration, the Find X2 Pro can also display shadows and dark areas with extra detail. 5G connectivity will complement all this as it will make sharing of photos and videos fast and easy and encourage people to search for their inner Stanley Kubrick. Sharing your creations is made easy too – you can send videos to friends and family with a simple click.
The new Find X2 models from Oppo offer extremely powerful performance. Oppo has also equipped its flagship devices with a double curve, the 67.8° curved display not only looks particularly stylish but should also contribute to a better grip and handling of the phones. The 3K screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 and there is IP certification for the first time. The Find X2 Pro is dust and waterproof to the IP68 standard and the X2 is splash-proof and IP54 certified.
Gaming like a Pro on the Oppo Find X2
The Oppo Find X2 series is one of the first powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. This SoC will be available in nearly every flagship device later in 2020. Memory is also aplenty in these new phones – both sport 12GB LPDDR5 RAM memory. The X2 comes with 256GB built-in storage, while the Pro version will be equipped with 512GB, both support UFS 3.0, for extra fast data transfer.
Thanks to the integration of the Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system, the new devices offer support for the super-fast 5G network. It is “SA/NSA dual-mode 5G”, where the smartphone is able to choose the best and strongest nearby antenna to connect to. The Oppo Smart 5G technology supports 4G/5G dual-receiver, dual-card and dual-standby and you can switch between the available networks fast, easy and without any trouble.
The Snapdragon 865 SoC also supports the Snapdragon Elite Gaming feature, which allows true HDR gaming. Coupled with the impressive screen and battery performance the new Oppo devices are extremely suitable for mobile gaming.
Speaking of batteries, the Find X2 is equipped with a 4,200 mAh one, while the Pro model has a 4,260 mAh battery. The charging technology is something really special – Oppo has built-in its 65W SuperVOOC fast charging magic so that you can fully recharge the devices in 40 minutes!
Android 10 on board with style
The new phones will run on the Android 10 operating system out of the box in combination with the ColorOS 7.1 user interface. The updated interface offers new animations and refined sound effects for a better overall user experience. The Dark Mode has also been updated, which contributes to a better reading experience while at the same time improving the battery life by up to 38%.
Security plays a big role in these new devices as well. Oppo Private Safe transfers photos, videos, audio and other documents to a secure area, blocking access by unauthorized apps. In addition, Payment Protection provides financial security by scanning the payment environment within the system and apps, while App Lock encrypts apps that require an access code or a fingerprint scan for access.
Oppo Find X2 price & availability
Both models will be available in the Netherlands starting today. Other European countries will follow in May 2020. The Oppo Find X2 is available in black (ceramic) and blue (glass) and has a suggested retail price of €1000. The highly advanced Oppo Find X2 Pro comes in black (ceramic) and orange (vegan leather) and will set you back €1200.
There are of course telecom incentives and subscription plans available – the already mentioned partnership between Oppo and T-Mobile will get you an Oppo Find X2 device for as low as €34 per month and if you fancy the Pro model, you can get it for €41.50 per month with a two-year subscription.
The back material of the devices is different depending on the color you choose – the two black models have a ceramic back, which looks very luxurious and also feels nice to the touch. Not to mention the scratch-resistance of the ceramic – which is comparable to that of sapphire. Last year, the Samsung Galaxy S10 models were also available with a ceramic back as an option, but it cost an additional € 250. Oppo makes it a standard unless you opt for a leather version instead. The orange model is finished with vegan leather, which feels soft and is also environmentally friendly, while the blue version sports an elegant pattern and is made out of glass.
